Kangaroo Island Odysseys - Kangaroo Island Luxury 'Road to Recovery' Tour
Following the aftermath of the devastating bushfires on Kangaroo Island, in January 2019 and February 2020, Mother Nature is really putting on a show! This tour allows you to witness first-hand, some of the worst fire affected areas of the island, and the amazing regeneration now being seen.
Your personal tour guide will meet you in the Reception area of the Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge. After settling into your comfortable, 4x4 touring vehicle, we will make our way to Seal Bay Conservation Park. Here you will be able to take a guided walk along the beach and watch a rare colony of wild Australian sea lions, frolic, play and rest, while your guide explains everything about their life cycle. This is truly an unforgettable experience.
We then head on to Vivonne Bay beach, once named Australia’s best beach, and you will see the devastating impact the second wave of bushfires had on this area and how it burnt right up to the coastline.
Travelling along the South Coast Road to Flinders Chase National Park, you will be able to notably see the amazing regeneration of this vast area, with green shoots, leaves and regrowth appearing everywhere. We will drive right into the Park to the furtherest western point, where the bushfires burnt right up to Remarkable Rocks. We will then explore Admirals Arch and watch the delightful LongNosed Fur Seals swim and play around the rock areas of the Arch.
During the tour, your guide will make plenty of stops where you can capture some great photos of the landscape and the flora and fauna. Your guide will also explain to you, along the way, how the bushfires forged their way, over December and January, from the western end of the island towards the east. eastern end and epicormic growth can happen after such a fire.
Following our visit to the western end of the island, we will make our way to the beautiful north coast to Stokes Bay. Touring itinerary is flexible and can be adapted to guests interests and the weather on the day. the once dense scrub now gone, it has opened up a view to hills and terrain that have been hidden for years.
Late afternoon towards dusk on Kangaroo Island is the perfect time to spot wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnas and possibly the rare Glossy Black Cockatoo, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled.
Bid farewell to your guide as your tour concludes either back at the Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge, airport or ferry terminal.
